Backscreening Effect
This effect can create some dazzling images for print as well as a great splash page for any multimedia project, such as a slide show.

1.) Launch Photoshop, then open a background image of your choice.

(To save this image, Right-Click and Save Picture as...)

(Picture captured from the Photoshop 6.0 source disc Goodies folder.)

2.) Create a new Layer by clicking the New Layer icon (Located at the bottom of the Layers palette). Now, select the Rectangular Marquee tool.

3.) Click on the work area and create a selection where you would like to place type.

Now, press the letter "D", then the letter "X". (This will set the foreground color to white.) Next, press (Alt + Backspace) to fill the selection. De-select by pressing (Ctrl + D).

4.) Top of the Layers palette, there is a opacity adjustment. Click on arrow to open Opacity Slider and make your adjustment. (I used 60%.)

Image with adjustment applied...

5.) Select the Text tool.

Now, go ahead and type your text. Something large like example below:

6.) Last step, finish effect by adding a Drop Shadow. In the Layers palette, select Backscreening layer, then Go to Layer > Layer Style > Drop Shadow. (When the dialog appears, hit OK.)

Now, close your eyes and make a wish ...meet you in paradise.
